if you buy by mail, fax, telephone or Internet

If you decide to buy a Personal Computer (PC) through the mail or by fax, telephone or over the Internet, you should look for the following:

  • the company name, a street address, telephone or e-mail address;
  • a description of the goods;
  • an explanation on how financial information will be handled eg. security of payment;
  • a price list;
  • a clear delivery date;
  • a clear explanation of how privacy issues are handled;
  • information on refunds and returns;
  • details of who will be responsible for safe transport/arrival of the goods;
  • details of return policy - who pays if the computer needs to be returned for warranty repair - where does the computer get fixed?.

Reputable sellers will provide this information. Be wary of sellers that don't.
