Draft Bill: Legal Practitioners Act 2006

This Bill is a discussion draft of the Bill for the proposed Legal Practitioners Act 2006. The main purpose of the proposed legislation is to implement the national model Legal Profession Bill as developed by the Standing Committee of Attorneys-General over the period 2004-2006. The model is designed to ensure that common rules regarding the practice of the law apply in each of the States and Territories that enact the law.

Paper: Domestic Violence Act

The Domestic Violence Act is being reviewed. An Issues Paper has been prepared for the review. Submissions are invited and Forums will be held.

Forums

Forums will be held in Darwin and Alice Springs for the review of the Domestic Violence Act. The forums will include a presentation by the Department of Justice and there will be an opportunity to contribute to the review.

The forum in Darwin will be held on Thursday 21 September 2006 from 9am to midday at the Litchfield Room Parliament House. In Alice Springs the forum will be held on Thursday 28 September 2006 in the DCIS training room, second floor Belvedere House from 9am to midday. Morning tea will be provided.

Submission

A submission can be as short and informal as a letter or email, or it can be a more substantial document. A submission does not have to address all of the issues identified in the paper, and it does not have to be confined to the issues identified in the paper. Electronic copies of submissions should be sent whenever possible.
